Bio Statement:
Wil Uecker is the Harmon Whittington Professor of Management. He has been recognized for the frequency that his published works are cited in leading research journals in managerial accounting and auditing. His teaching interests include cost management, operations, and performance evaluation and control. His consulting clients have included firms in public accounting, oil and gas, and food processing. He has taught corporate programs for companies in the energy, healthcare and information technology industries.

Dr. Uecker received his BA in Economics, MBA, and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving his doctorate, he served on the faculty of the University of Iowa where he was awarded the Ernst and Whinney Professorship in Accounting. In 1984, he joined the Rice faculty as Harmon Whittington Professor. In addition to his faculty appointment, he served for eleven years as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Jones School. His administrative responsibilities included preparation and monitoring of the School's budget, coordination of the faculty recruiting effort, and oversight of the promotion and tenure review process. Subsequently, he served for eight years as Associate Dean for Executive Education. His administrative responsibilities included the design, marketing, and delivery of the School’s Executive MBA and executive education programs to the business and professional community.

Before entering academe, Dr. Uecker was an accountant in the audit and tax division of a major public accounting firm. He was a licensed CPA in Texas from 1981 to 2001.

Research Statement:
In addition to my historical interest in cost management issues and practices, I am interested in business school strategy and competitiveness and the role of corporate education in business schools.
